Practical completion milestone reached at Norwich Airport.
We are delighted that a £7million expansion project at Norwich Airport has achieved practical completion.
The scheme has seen the provision of a 54,000ft² hangar together with 15,500 ft² workshop area at the airport in Horsham St Faith – facilities to accommodate the KLM UK Engineering Group .
Designed by award winning architects and master-planners, Stephen George + Partners, the new double bay hangar can accommodate two A320 aircraft, and also offers associated workshop space which will help support the airport’s objective to maintain and consolidate its place as a leader in aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul.
Working with contractor MJS Projects (March) Ltd, and project manager David Henshaw, Luma Consulting LUMA Project Consulting – Project and Development Management Consultancy (lumaconsulting.co.uk), DCP provided quantity surveying and employer’s agent services on the development which started on site in November 2019. Commenting on the completion of the project, Senior Partner, Robert Dale, said, “2020 has been a challenging year for many industries, particularly the aviation sector, but it is very encouraging to see the completion of this project which will support the future needs of the airport as the sector recovers in the months and years to come.”
Fun fact: Norwich Airport is situated on the site of a former RAF Station. RAF Horsham St. Faith opened in 1940. Between 1942 and 1945 it was home to the 485th Bombardment Group of the Eighth US Airforce – one of 17 such US air force bases in Norfolk alone.
