Sandcastle Competition 2025
11 June 2025
What a fabulous afternoon!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the beautiful beach at Frinton for DCP’s Sandcastle Competition 2025. Where, despite a less than encouraging weather forecast, and some intermittently threatening clouds, the sun shone, the north sea sparkled and the rain stayed away!
Our theme this year was ‘Grand Designs’ which gave the teams plenty of scope to be super creative. They truly rose to the challenge! From an impressively large pyramid (KLH Architects), to a Gaudi-inspired cathedral (Inkpen Downie), and Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man (Purcell), the international influence was strong. While other teams celebrated iconic designs closer to home, and from the natural and scientific worlds – ‘Julie’ from Grayson Perry’s House for Essex (Rose Builders), Frinton in all its current and past seaside glory (teams DCP, Haydn Evans and Stanley Bragg, respectively), a sustainable house (Harp Design & Ellisons), an intricate golden ratio sea shell (Arcady), an ambitiously large ‘traditional’ sandcastle (FJG), and even Atlantis (Holmes & Hills). We loved them all!
We were delighted to welcome Frinton’s Mayor, Cllr Mark Cossens, ably supported by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Andrea Cossens, to Thank you very much to Frinton’s Mayor, Cllr Mark Cossens, ably supported by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mrs Andrea Cossens, to take on the incredibly difficult (almost impossible!) task of judging the sandcastles, and awarding prizes to the winning teams.
And the winners were? On their debut appearance – KLH Architects Ltd took the top spot and the trophy. Runners up this time were last year’s winners, Inkpen Downie Architecture.
Almost as if by design, our competition coincided with #NationalFishAndChipDay. So it was only fitting that the afternoon ended with everyone enjoying fish and chips on the beach!
Roll on Summer 2026 – we’re already looking forward to the next one!
