Daniel Connal Partnership was appointed to provide quantity surveying and contract administration services on this mixed-use development in Chelmsford city centre.
The development consisted of 14 high specification residential apartments above 3 commercial outlets, together with associated recycling and refuse collection points, cycle store and car parking. The scheme was designed by Arcady Architects. The contractors were Horizon Construction Group.
The Signal Yard Chelmsford
Situated close to Chelmsford railway station the development site, a former electrical wholesalers, is surrounded by business and residential units, all of which remained occupied during the build. We worked successfully with the construction team to minimise disruption caused by the work, reducing the impact on neighbouring residents and businesses.
A slightly unusual condition for this project was the necessity of a UXO (unexploded ordnance) report, undertaken prior to the commencement of works. Chelmsford was an important centre of war production light engineering, and suffered heavy bombardment during WW2. Fortunately nothing untoward was discovered.
