Buckhatch Nursery & Garden Centre
Project Overview
Project: Restaurant reinstatement following fire damage
Client: Buckhatch Nursery & Garden Centre
Contract value: £300k
Following a serious fire which damaged the cafeteria at Buckhatch Nursery and Garden Centre, a comprehensive reinstatement scheme was undertaken.
Daniel Connal Partnership was appointed to provide specification, tendering, and contract administration services as well as acting as CDM Principal Designer on the project.
Speed was of the essence on this scheme, a key client requirement being the capability to meet a tight timeframe to minimise impact on the existing business. Fortunately the layout of the site meant it was possible to maintain separation between works area and the garden centre proper, which was able to trade throughout the reinstatement programme.

The fire, caused by an electrical fault, had damaged an isolated area of the roof and external wall, which had to be replaced. Further widespread heat and smoke damage had affected the rest of the open plan space and wall, ceiling linings, and floor finishes all had to be stripped out and replaced, together with new mechanical & electrical installations.
Works were carried out under a JCT Intermediate Contract with Contractor’s Design, and undertaken by Stroods Specialist Contractors. With careful planning and close liaison between the consultancy team and Stoods, it was possible to fast-track and complete the reinstatement works in only 11 weeks meeting the client’s key requirement.
The project completed on time and on budget.
