Bacon’s College
Project Overview
Project: Internal re-configuration to form new digital media suite, music & drama facilities
Client: Bacon’s College
Contract value: £2.2m
Daniel Connal Partnership was commissioned to reconfigure and extend the existing Bacon’s College accommodation to create Digital Media facilities for the newly established academy in Rotherhithe, London.
DCP was asked to produce a design which would facilitate the integration of the College’s Digital Media specialism across the Academy.
Situated in London’s Docklands and with no capacity to expand the site, our team came up with a design which maximised the potential of the available accommodation and provided the required new spaces including a Digital Media Hub and Music Hub.

The importance of these new facilities was matched by the inter-connectivity between the associated spaces which would deliver efficiency in circulation; a dynamic and cost effective solution to the Academy’s requirements.
The design team at Daniel Connal consulted extensively with staff to ensure they fully understood the Schools’ requirements and aspirations before submitting their design proposals . They used their experience and creativity to produce a scheme which incorporated all of the desired facilities and functions within the defined budget.
The expansion and redesign of the Resources Centre and location of the Digital Media hub in close proximity ensured that the core specialism of the College remained at the heart of the building.
The lead sponsors of the Academy were the Church of England via the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education and the Phillip and Pauline Harris Charitable Trust.
