We are delighted to report that work on the new Community Hub for YMCA Norfolk is complete! The centre has now been handed over to the YMCA team ahead of its opening in the Spring.
The £2m scheme has seen the complete renovation and rejuvenation of the existing Jubilee Centre, a former Royal British Legion hall, on Aylsham Road in Norwich. Working with the designers, award winning architects, LSi, and contractors, Cocksedge, DCP provided project management and quantity surveying services on the project.
Once fully operational, the new YMCA Norfolk Community Hub will offer a community café – ‘Williams’ Kitchen’, a soft play centre and ‘Muddy Puddles’, an Ofsted registered nursery. The hub will also provide multi-use spaces for youth and community groups and accommodate the offices of the YMCA Norfolk team who are moving from their city centre location to the site.
Robert Dale, Senior Partner at DCP, commented, “We are very proud to have been part of this project for the YMCA. Refurbishing and repurposing a disused building and transforming it into an exciting and useable space for the benefit of the local community, is very satisfying . That this project has been successfully completed under the challenging conditions created by the Covid-19 pandemic is testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved.”
Fun fact! The new community café, William’s Kitchen, is named after the founder of the YMCA – Sir George Williams.
