Traditionally on the Friday nearest St George’s Day, the Colchester DCP team hosts a Champagne Breakfast for colleagues and friends at Le Talbooth in the beautiful Dedham Vale. The occasion marks our national saint’s day and the season of Spring – it’s an event we very much enjoy.
Our guests are invited in rhyme, and encouraged to reply in kind. The writer of the best poem receives the coveted Daniel Connal Partnership Poetry Trophy – last year it was Nick Moore of NFM Engineering Ltd.
Sadly, like so many other events, our Champagne Breakfast has succumbed to Covid-19. On the plus side Nick gets to hold on to the poetry trophy for another year. Amongst the very many minuses of the current situation, we are disappointed not to be getting together with colleagues and friends and raising a glass to St George.
However, in the spirit of the event we’ve penned a little ditty and hope that we’ll be back at Le Talbooth for St George’s Day in 2021.
St. George would be proud that we’re doing our bit
to protect our health service, they’re the ones facing ‘it’!
Covid-19 has seen off our party, but we’re not downcast!
No! We’re hale and hearty!
This year we’ll stay home, raise a virtual glass
‘To St. George & the Spring’, for ‘this too shall pass’.
By next year we hope those ‘St Georges’ in labs
will have sorted a vaccine, and we’ll all have had jabs!
