Extension and Regeneration of Wells Maltings.
We won!! We are absolutely delighted that our project at Wells Maltings, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk has won the RICS 2019 – East of England award for Community Benefit.
The regenerated arts, heritage and community complex in the heart of Wells, opened in September 2018 following a £5m restoration and extension project, and has fast becoming a landmark cultural hub in the region.
DCP has been involved with the project from its outset. The scheme embodies the vision of the Wells Maltings Trust who wanted to provide Wells and North Norfolk with a first-class community and arts facility while protecting and conserving the Grade II listed building which stands at the heart of the conservation area in the seaside town.
In addition to our role of Project Manager on the scheme and we also provided quantity surveying services. The wider construction team included architects Chaplin Farrant, contractor Robson Construction and engineers JP Chick.
The annual RICS awards, organised and run by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, recognise excellence in the built environment, showcasing successful and inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure.
The RICS judges described the project at Wells Maltings as,
“A building about the community, for the community. Wells Maltings offers both the permanent residents and seasonal residents of Wells-next-the-Sea something, whether it’s a insight into the towns heritage, local fine art, touring theatrical companies or the latest blockbuster film releases. This building is diverse, as is the ever-changing community and to the buildings credit, it keeps up, whilst also offering increased footfall into the High Street, where local retail benefits.”
Senior Partner at DCP, Robert Dale, commented,
“We are incredibly proud to have been involved in this exciting and successful community project. For it to be recognised by this prestigious award is a huge achievement for the team.”
The project now goes through to the RICS Awards 2019 Grand Final in London on 4 October at the Royal Lancaster Hotel – we’re just a tiny bit excited, and have got everything crossed!
