A: By re-designing the pot.
Daniel Connal Partnership has recently completed a satisfying project at Clapton Girls’ Academy in Hackney, E5.
The school needed to create additional occasional office space, without undertaking an extension project. So they asked our design team to come up with a scheme that provided the required office areas within the existing building. We were delighted to help.
Our scheme to address the school’s needs included relocating a mezzanine staircase. This created a small office area in previously dead space. We also reconfigured a large staff kitchen area to provide a more versatile layout, installing a folding partition which, when pulled across, creates a temporary office/meeting room. In addition to the reconfiguration work, classrooms were refurbished.
Initially engaged to provide a feasibility design, Daniel Connal Partnership were then appointed by the Academy to provide project management, contract administration, architectural design and Principal Designer services on the reconfiguration and refurbishment scheme, working with Ensigna Construction Ltd.
With the school keen to minimise any disruption to students, the bulk of the work was programmed into the summer break. The project completed with the installation of the folding partition in the staff kitchen during the half term holidays.
