PRIVATE RESIDENCE, SUFFOLK COAST
Project: Moisture Ingress Survey
Client: Rose Builders
Services provided: Thermography Survey
Contract value: Undisclosed
This private residence, a small Victorian cottage with bespoke extension, is situated on the Suffolk coast.
Water ingress was suspected at low level with the probable cause being defective tanking or waterproofing. DCP was appointed to undertake a thermographic survey to confirm this.
This survey presented a number of challenges.
Suitable environmental conditions are required to use a thermal camera, which creates images by capturing heat transfer. To ensure the optimum results from the thermal imagery, we resolved the issue by pre-heating the building to a constant 22° for 48 hours prior to the inspection.
Thermal imaging identified areas of moisture ingress in spaces which were obscured by internal finishes. We used a damp meter to confirm the main problem areas which ensured intrusive ‘opening-up’ required by the client was isolated and kept to the absolute minimum to provide a clear thermal image of what was going on.
Our thermographic survey confirmed moisture ingress, and we recommended an appropriate course of action to resolve the issue.
