THE MARIST SCHOOL
Project: Sports hall with ancillary amenities, viewing gallery, fitness suite & classrooms
Client: The Marist School
Services provided: Employer’s Agent, CDM(2015)
Contract value: £2.2m
The Marist School is an independent Catholic day school for girls aged 2½–18 in Sunninghill, Berkshire. The school wished to expand and improve the sports facilities available to students with the construction of a multi-purpose sports hall with ancillary changing facilities, an upstairs viewing gallery, state of the art fitness suite and classrooms.
Daniel Connal Partnership was appointed on behalf of Ball Hall (Project Management) Ltd as Employer’s Agent on this project, procured under a Design and Build Contract via a competitive single stage route.
The main challenge on this project was the proximity to woodland and adjacent ‘live’ environment: a swimming pool building and classrooms. The classrooms remained operational throughout the build as did the swimming pool which is used by the school during the day, and the public in the evenings.
Student and staff safety was of paramount importance. Access to the construction area on such a restricted site could have been problematic, but we resolved this with the introduction of a one way system, with large construction vehicles receiving an escort on and off the site.
On completion the new sports hall was opened by HRH The Duke of York.
