ST MATTHEW ACADEMY
Project: New build sports hall & multi-gym with changing facilities
Client: St Matthew Academy
Services provided: Architectural Design, CDM Services
Contract value: £2m
The Daniel Connal Partnership was appointed to provide architectural services for the development of a sports hall for the St Matthew Academy from planning permission through to the realisation of the final building – RIBA Stage 3 (initial planning application) to RIBA Stage 6 (construction and completion of the building).
Suffering from a chronic lack of space on site and an expanding pupil roll, the Academy in Blackheath, South London, wanted to convert their existing sports facilities into classrooms and then create a state of the art Sports Hall for the benefit of their students which also had the potential for community use, all within their existing boundaries.
To ensure they fully understood the client’s requirements and aspirations the design team at Daniel Connal consulted extensively with staff. They then used their experience and creativity to produce a scheme which incorporated all of the Client’s required facilities and functions within their budget limitations.
The scheme designed by Daniel Connal has fulfilled the aspiration of the Academy to provide a first class sports hall and associated gym facilities for its pupils and also realised the potential for community enjoyment of the new amenities.
