PELDON VILLAGE HALL
Project: New Village Hall
Client: Peldon Village Hall Management Committee
Services provided: Employer’s Agent, Principal Designer for Pre Contract Services
Contract Value: £453k
Daniel Connal Partnership was appointed Employer’s Agent on this project to provide a modern, bright and flexible community facility for the village of Peldon in Essex.
The scheme was the culmination of a long running fundraising project to replace the dilapidated existing village hall which was no longer fit for purpose. It gained wider publicity when it came third in Colchester Borough Council’s 2016 Big Choice competition, securing the final £50k which enabled work to start.
Located in the centre of Peldon, adjacent to some of the village’s oldest properties and the historic Church of St Mary the Virgin, the look of the building was of particular importance, requiring sensitive and sympathetic treatment. Planning architects, Inkpen Downie, designed the hall to look like a barn conversion – very appropriate in this rural setting – which achieved planning permission.
Following receipt of planning permission, the project was completed under a Design and Build Contract by Stroods Specialist Contractors.
The building provides facilities for a wide range of local user groups, social events and the annual Pantomime. As well as the main hall, there is a committee meeting room, large kitchen, storage facilities and toilets. Outside, in addition to the car park, a large grassed area provides an external social space.
The client was delighted with the finished village hall which completed on time and on budget, fulfilling the brief to provide an excellent amenity for the community.
