NELFT, GROVELANDS DAY UNIT
Project: Relocation of Child Development Centre Services
Client: North East London NHS Foundation Trust
Services provided: Project Management, Architectural Design, Contract Administration, CDM Services
Contract Value: £160k
The Daniel Connal Partnership was commissioned to undertake the design, specification, tendering and contract administration for a project to relocate Child Development Centre Services to the Grovelands Unit in Chadwell Heath. The centre will provide a paediatric led multi-disciplinary/multi- agency approach for the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of children with complex neurological disorders, learning difficulties, pervasive developmental disorders and developmental difficulties.
The relocation of clinical services to Grovelands required reconfiguration of the existing layout to provide clinical rooms with ceiling hoists, accessible WCs, an eye clinic, Doctor’s office, 1-way mirror facility, additional administration capacity and refurbishment of the existing Reception area to include a DDA compliant desk.
The client’s requirements changed over the course of the construction phase, with additional facilities needed for a disabled member of staff. Close liaison enabled the DCP team to adapt the design and provide information quickly as site constraints necessitated alterations to some aspects of the scheme.
The design team at Daniel Connal worked creatively to meet the requirements of the client’s brief within the constraints of the existing building and were able to realise valuable additional space to house the expanded administration department, whilst also accommodating essential clinical spaces and services.
