ROSEWOOD MEDICAL CENTRE, HORNCHURCH
Project: Single storey extension, internal alterations and refurbishment
Client: The Rosewood Medical Centre
Services provided: Quantity Surveying, CDM Principal Designer
Contract value: £254k
Daniel Connal Partnership was appointed as Principal Designer (CDM 2015) and to provide quantity surveying services on this project in the Hornchurch Conservation Area.
The Rosewood Medical Centre is housed in Astra House, the former Officers’ Mess for RAF Hornchurch which closed in 1962. Now a busy medical practice, the 1930’s building required extending and updating to enable the medical centre staff to offer a wider and improved range of services to its patients.
The project comprised the construction of a new single storey extension to house a training room, the formation of new consulting rooms, and internal alterations and the replacement of flooring. All this taking place while the practice remained open.
Working in a live environment does present challenges – close liaison with the client, architect and contractor was key to maintaining satisfactory progress. Works were phased to ensure safe working and reduce inconvenience & disturbance to staff and patients.
