22 BED INFECTION CONTROL WARD
Project: 22 Bed Infection Control Ward
Client: James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Services provided: Quantity Surveying
Contract value: £1.75m
Works comprised stripping out the existing rehabilitation/hydrotherapy suite, to create four treatment rooms, four consultation rooms, a three bed recovery bay, a scan/treatment room, nurse base, staff room, WC’s, reception and waiting areas.
The project was subject to an extremely tight budget and we employed a pro-active value-engineering process, re-tendering amongst the lowest contractors. An assiduous regime of cost control was applied to ensure the client remained fully aware of the available funds for direct orders.
The late addition of some extra work caused a significant strain on the project budget when unacceptable costings were proposed.
We took a firm line and ensured this extra work was priced in the same manner as the tender.
Our firm but fair approach was respected by the contractor and we achieved an early settlement of the final account with a saving of £20K over the contract sum.
This saving allowed the Trust to make direct purchases of furniture enabling completion of the project.
