HIGH STREET, BRENTWOOD
Project: High Street, Brentwood
Client: Levanter Properties Ltd
Services provided: Project Management, Contract Administrator, Architectural Services, CDM Services
Contract value: £65k
The Daniel Connal Partnership was commissioned to design and administer a building contract for a rear single storey extension to an existing Grade II Listed building on the High Street, Brentwood whilst co-ordinating the refurbishment with a well known high street fashion retailer.
The design team at Daniel Connal worked with the client before submitting proposals to the local authority, where planning and conservation consent was conditionally granted.
One planning condition required a programme of archaeological work designed to protect and preserve Brentwood’s rich history. DCP entered into discussions with Essex County Council’s Historic Environment Department to understand exactly what was required to accommodate the archaeological work and then obtained competitive tenders from appropriated registered Archaeological Organisations.
Positive planning and management helped to bring about a sensible solution to the treatment of the site and reduced the areas of potential conflict between the planned development and preservation of the building. The trench dig revealed no finds and the planning condition was subsequently discharged permitting the construction of the single storey extension to commence.
