The proposal to extend Beeston Hall music school into a performing arts centre was an exciting project in support of the School’s development plan.
Beeston Hall School is a leading independent boarding and day preparatory school for boys and girls aged 5-13, located on the North Norfolk coast. The School has a broad curriculum with a particular strength in Music and Drama. The current music school includes practice rooms and a large classroom used for both class music teaching lessons and small performances. The Daniel Connal Partnership carried out a feasibility study and produced drawings to support a planning application for the redevelopment of Beeston Hall music school to provide a performing arts centre.
Utilising an unused outdoor swimming pool site adjacent to the music school, the proposals included creating a modern performance space with retractable seating. The space was to be acoustically designed to support multi-uses including drama, dance, music performance, assemblies and worship. The design included provision of a new striking entrance foyer and recital room to an otherwise traditional design in Norfolk brick and flint. The proposals included enhancing the acoustic and performance of the existing spaces and introducing a computer suite to support the increasing importance of music technology in the music curriculum.
Using its previous experience in performance arts projects, the Daniel Connal Partnership produced an efficient costed proposal developed to meet the requirements for a planning application.
