CONSTABLE BUILDING, COLCHESTER GENERAL HOSPITAL
Project: Over cladding of existing fascia & soffits and replacement rainwater goods
Client: Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust
Services provided: Quantity Surveying, Contract Administration, CDM Services
Contract value: £98k
Daniel Connal Partnership was commissioned to undertake the specification, tendering, contract administration and provide CDM services on this project to overclad the fascia & soffits and replace rainwater goods at the Constable Wing, Colchester General Hospital.
The existing fascia and soffits, constructed of non marine grade ply, on the four storey building had deteriorated overtime, while the UPVC rainwater goods had become brittle and damaged.
The Constable Wing, which houses the maternity unit, orthopaedic wards and theatres remained operational throughout the project.
Scaffolding such a large building would have been expensive, noisy to erect and dismantle, as well as presenting privacy issues for patients. DCP introduced an alternative solution with specialist contractors Avalon Abseiling.
Most of the work was completed via a mobile access platform, with abseiling to some less accessible areas. This method not only reduced the cost of the overall project but also minimised disturbance to patients, staff and visitors.
