PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
Project: Performing Arts Centre
Client: The Brit School
Services provided: Architectural Services, Building Surveying
Contract value: £3.7M
The Daniel Connal Partnership was commissioned to create a dramatic new building for the world renowned BRIT School for the Performing Arts. The annual BRIT awards continue to demonstrate the phenomenal talent that the academy has produced over the last few years. Artists such as Katie Melua, Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Adele and Kate Nash are all former students of the school, which is partly funded by the BRIT academy.
Suffering from an overall lack of space and suitable areas to accommodate their curriculum, the Governors wanted a dynamic and cost effective solution for which they invited the Daniel Connal Partnership, along with other leading practices, to submit tenders.
Daniel Connal Partnership was able to provide an innovative solution in the form of an attractive, functional and dynamic new block where music and dance could be located, freeing areas in the existing building to house the ICT facilities, library resources and restaurant, with the addition of digital editing facilities and a new lecture theatre.
The project was designed taking into account Department for Education design guidelines and procured using a “traditional” form of procurement. The project was completed on time and on budget.
