Beeston Hall is a leading boarding prep school situated on the North Norfolk coast. The Daniel Connal Partnership was appointed to review the existing fire safety arrangements at the school and prepare fire risk assessments in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Daniel Connal Partnership has extensive experience of undertaking fire risk assessments in a wide variety of premises, and in this instance it was our experience in undertaking fire risk assessments of educational establishments in general and sleeping accommodation in particular that enabled us to offer appropriate expert advice.
The school comprises many buildings of different ages and construction including timber framed buildings, modern purpose built classrooms as well as the traditional main school building converted from a Regency country house. Each brought with it its own risks which we assessed on a methodical and practical basis.
We undertook the fire risk assessments during a half term holiday to ensure free access to all areas and to minimise any potential disruption to the daily life of the school.
We produced separate fire risk assessments for each area of the school; kitchens, dormitories and individual academic departments. This ensured that, while the school facilities team had an overview of all areas to plan for any improvements required, individual ownership of each assessment could be taken by the person responsible for that area enabling them to manage any specific housekeeping issues.
DCP worked closely with the school to review the risks in all areas and also considered the operational and management arrangements. Together we agreed practical and inexpensive improvements as well as simple revisions to the their operational procedures to make the School a safer place for those studying, working and sleeping on the premises.
