In a somewhat rash moment in October last year our Senior Partner, Simon Jacklin, entered the ballot to take part in the annual Legal & General Club Peloton Cycle Ride to MIPIM, never dreaming he would get a place. Well, guess what ……
Simon will be one of 150 riders cycling 1500 kms across France to arrive in Cannes on the French Riviera for the start of MIPIM, the international real estate show which takes place at the beginning of March.
The ride is no mean feat! Early starts, long days and late finishes, not to mention challenging climbs and variable weather conditions, all combine to make completing the event a real achievement.
An enthusiastic weekend cyclist Simon is not a novice, but this is a ride of a different magnitude.
Now he has got over the shock of getting a place, what’s he looking forward to? Certainly, the team work, meeting new people, and experiencing a few days as a pro-cyclist, with all the trappings of a full support crew providing mechanical assistance, motorcycle outriders and a lead car clearing the road ahead.
Probably, not quite so enthusiastic about ‘numb bum’ and aching legs, so we won’t dwell on that!
But it is in aid of a very good cause. Last year alone the event raised more than £600k for its charity partners and the target this year is £1m.
Simon is raising funds for Coram http://www.coram.org.uk/, a children’s charity established in 1739 by philanthropist Thomas Coram. The charity’s work today, in supporting children and young people, is as vital as ever. If you would like to help Simon reach his target of raising £3,000 for Coram his sponsorship page is https://my.race-nation.co.uk/sponsorship/entry/132263
With the event just 3 months off, and Christmas a distant memory (mince pies and chocolate not the best preparation), training has now started in earnest and we will be following it closely with regular updates on Simon’s progress on DCP’s website, Twitter feed and Facebook.
Good luck, Simon!
