We’re going virtual!
At this time of year we are usually getting ready for our annual Sandcastle Competition on the beautiful beach at Frinton.
This year it’s all a bit different. We are embracing this and making our competition a bit different too. In fact, it’s not really a competition at all but, for the committed sandcastle builders amongst you, it is a bit of fun – and it’s virtual.
If you do get down to the beach over the summer, or can evict the children from your garden sandpit, get busy and send us a photo of your creation (email@example.com). We’d love to see it and will add it to our DCP Sandcastle Competition 2020 Roll of Honour (and tweet it, obviously). Who knows, it might even give you bonus points for next year’s competition when we hope to be back in person to enjoy Frinton’s finest.
In true Blue Peter spirit, here’s one we (actually, Associate, Jon Rensink) made earlier. Not the most inspired (sorry, Jon) but a good effort, nonetheless, and we’re sure you can do better!
And finally, as those in the know, know, we do love a ‘poem’ at DCP, so to mark the event we’ve penned a short one.
It’s summer, not raining, surf’s up, sky is blue.
You should be in Frinton with the DCP crew.
Our Sandcastle Comp’s the event of the season
But this year’s a washout, we all know the reason!
Covid and lockdown have got in the way,
Social distancing/masks aren’t conducive to play.
So this year it’s virtual, please send us your ‘pics’,
We’d so love to see them and it’s just a few clicks.
But next year … start planning, creating your scheme.
‘Transport’? Royal residence? We’ll come up with the theme.
The Sandcastle trophy, again up for grabs,
NJA* will return it – they’re jolly good chaps!
We can’t wait to see you – enjoy beers, have a natter,
And top it all off with a fish ‘n chip platter.
In the meantime, wash hands, keep your distance, stay safe,
Let’s keep the tide turning and avoid second waves!
See you in 2021!
