More Information

Earlsfield Library was constructed in the mid 1920’s and was designed to reflect the importance of Public Buildings of the era. In winter of 2002 Daniel Connal Partnership were asked to present ideas as to how this building could be brought up to date in a sympathetic manner that wouldn’t detract from the character of the building.
Following discussions with the client it was clear that the use of libraries has evolved and in order for the library to survive the Council would need to provide the community with a state of the art facility offering a children’s library, function room, art exhibition space, internet facilities, new staff facilities & provision for the disabled.
The building was officially opened by the mayor of Wandsworth in 2003 and on the opening night it was clear that the library provides a much needed focal point for the local community. The overall design has an inviting feel that would encourage the use of this much needed facility and seek to inspire a new generation of readers along with long standing patrons alike .
“I am only too happy to recommend your team considering how pleased the Council is with their new Library.
Thought and attention to detail has made this project such a success and the finished product has a wow factor that reflects architectural flair backed up by solid building surveying expertise” David Brown, Head of Premises Management Services - Wandsworth Borough Council.
